What is a gas leak?
Gas leakageis an undesirable phenomenon in production operations. However, they are quite common. Gas leakage not only causes great damage to industrial activities, but also affects the health and life of users. This is often highly dependent on the nature of the gas being leaked. With toxic gases such as O3, HCl… this should be implemented and closely monitored.
What causes gas to leak?
– The environment where the air compressor is located with the compressed air system is dusty, which over time causes some parts to clog, to operate inefficiently and to leak compressed air.
– The hot and humid monsoon climate is one of the reasons why machine parts quickly corrode and oxidize if the machine operation is not meticulously cared for. This also leads to compressed air leaks.
– The maintenance of details such as: joints, connections, air intake and exhaust valves, gas pipelines.. not performed by professional technicians, leading to gas leaks.
– Compressed air leakage usually occurs in the following parts:
+ Pneumatic opening and closing valves.
+ Joints, welds.
+ Lace segments.
+ Sealing ring.
+ Pressure regulating device.
+ Gas pipeline ……
How to detect gas leaking?
With the naked eye, it will be difficult for users to detect compressed air leaks. Ultrasound is the most common leak detection method and users can use it to detect many different types of leaks.
The principle of ultrasonic leak detection is very simple. In a pressure or vacuum leak, the leak flows from a high-pressure laminar flow to a low-pressure turbulent flow. Chaos produces white noise that contains a wide spectrum of sounds from audible to inaudible frequencies. The ultrasonic sensor focuses on the ultrasonic elements in the noise. Since ultrasound is a short wave signal, the sound level will be greatest at the leak site. Ultrasonic detectors are generally not affected by ambient noise in the audible range because these signals have been filtered out. This means that leaks can be heard even in the noisiest environments.
The advantages of ultrasonic leak detection include flexibility, speed, ease of use, the ability to perform tests while the device is running, and the ability to find a wide variety of leaks. They require minimal training and operators usually become proficient after 15 minutes of training.
Due to the nature of ultrasound, it is directional during transmission. For this reason, the signal is at the largest source. By scanning around the test area, it is possible to quickly enter the house at the leak site and locate it. For this reason, ultrasonic leak detection is not only fast but also very accurate.
How to fix a gas leak:
Leaks occur most often at joints and connections in end-use applications. Preventing leaks can be as simple as tightening a connection or as complex as replacing faulty equipment such as joints, fittings, hose segments, hoses, joints, drains and traps. In many cases, leaks are caused by just bad or improper sealant. Select high quality fittings, disconnectors, hoses, ducts and install them properly using an appropriate sealant only.
Inactive equipment can be an additional source of leaks. Equipment that is no longer in use should be isolated by valves in the distribution system.
Another way to reduce leaks is to reduce the required air pressure of the system. The lower the pressure differential across the hole or leak, the lower the flow rate, so a decrease in system pressure will result in a reduced leak rate. Stabilizing the system header pressure to the lowest practical range will minimize leakage rates to the system.
